Step into China’s snowbound frontier, a journey across its vast northeastern expanse, where Manchurian culture, frozen landscapes, and the northern lights converge.

Follow the legendary Trans-Manchurian rail line, tracing a path from the imperial stillness of Beijing to the crystalline world of Harbin’s Ice & Snow Festival, and onward to Mohe, China’s northernmost village at the edge of the Arctic Circle.

Hot springs steam beneath the stars, trains glide through frost-draped forests, and Russian and Manchu traditions intertwine in a landscape sculpted by ice and silence.

From Beijing’s ancient wonders to the volcanic peaks of Changbai Mountain, this immersive expedition blends culture, adventure, and breathtaking winter scenery.

  • Day 1 – Beijing Arrival

    Arrive in Beijing, China’s imperial capital, and settle into your boutique hotel.

    We will wander the hutongs alleys, visit the summer palace, and breathe history in every brick of the Forbidden City.

    In the evening, welcome dinner in one of the top Beijing duck restaurants with your travel family and guides, introduction to the adventure ahead.

    Day 2 – The Chinese Great Wall

    We rise early to explore a hidden, lesser-known section of the Great Wall, where winter’s may blanket the ancient stones in snow, a rare and magical sight.

    After returning to the city for lunch, we’ll visit the Temple of Heaven, where emperors once prayed for good harvests beneath its perfect symmetry.

    As night falls, we’ll toast to our first full day in China from one of Guomao’s stunning rooftop bars, surrounded by the glittering skyline of Beijing’s financial district.

    Day 3 – Beijing to Shenyang (Train)

    We board the high-speed train northeast to Shenyang (4-5h), the first Manchu capital.

    After check in in the hotel, we will visit the Mukden Palace, a miniature cousin of Beijing’s Forbidden City, and explore the old quarters where Qing Dynasty history began.

    Sample Shenyang’s winter cuisine: dumplings, stews, and hotpot to beat the cold.

    Day 4 – Changbai Mountain (Sky Field and Hot Springs)

    Travel by private van to Changbai Shan, located on the Korean border in Jilin province.

    If snow conditions permit, enjoy skiing in Changbai Shan’s Sky Field, with runs available for both beginners and advanced skiers.

    In the afternoon, relax in natural hot springs set amidst snow-covered pine forests and a serene frozen landscape.

    We’ll savour Korean cuisine and spend the night in a heated mountain lodge; rustic, remote, and peaceful.

    Overnight in Mountain Lodge

    Day 5 – Changbai Mountain (Volcanic Crater Lake)

    We’ll head toward the frozen peak of Changbai Mountain, home to a mythical crater lake revered in Korean folklore. Travelers can choose to reach the summit by bus or on foot, perfect for hiking enthusiasts.

    Along the way, you’ll encounter frozen waterfalls, hot springs steaming through the snow, and the stark beauty of the frozen high mountain pine forests. At the top, we’ll explore Heaven Lake, a caldera lake high above the clouds, shrouded in mist and legend.

    In the evening, we’ll return to our natural hot springs resort to relax and spend the night.

    Overnight in Mountain Lodge

    Day 6 – Harbin (Ice & Snow Festival)

    We’ll travel by shuttle and train to Harbin, China’s famous “Ice City,” once known as the Paris of the East, a refuge for Russian elites after the Russian Revolution.

    Explore St. Sophia Cathedral, wander through the Russian Quarter, and stroll along Central Street to experience a distinctly Russian atmosphere in China. Sample the city’s famous ice cream and take in the frozen expanse of the Songhua River.

    We will welcome any new members of the expedition who just arrived to Harbin to join us for the second week.

    In the afternoon, attend the Ice & Snow Festival, one of the world’s most spectacular winter events. Marvel at towering ice sculptures, illuminated at night with coloured lights to create a surreal, crystal-like world.

    Enjoy a traditional Russian dinner in the city’s historic Russian Quarter.

    Overnight in Harbin.

    • Beijing – Wander through the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace, explore the hidden hutongs, and enjoy a welcome feast of traditional Beijing duck.

    • The Great Wall – Experience a serene, untouched section of the Wall dusted with snow, followed by a visit to the Temple of Heaven and a rooftop toast over Beijing’s skyline.

    • Shenyang – Ride the high-speed train to the first Manchu capital, explore the Mukden Palace, and taste hearty northeastern cuisine.

    • Changbai Mountain – Ski or hike in the Sky Field, soak in hot springs beneath snowy pines, and explore the legendary Heaven Lake crater.

    • Harbin – Step into a frozen wonderland at the world-famous Ice & Snow Festival, explore Russian-era architecture, and savour traditional Siberian-inspired dishes.

Continue your journey into China’s remote northeast — from Harbin’s glittering ice world to the Arctic wilderness of Mohe, the northernmost point of China. This second leg of the adventure offers snowbound villages, vast frozen wetlands, and a rare chance to chase the Northern Lights beneath the polar night sky.

  • Day 7 – Harbin (Snow Village)

    Today marks the end of the trip for travellers who joined for just one week and will depart from Harbin to return home.

    For the rest of the group, we’ll head to the Snow Village near Harbin to explore its winter landscapes.

    Wander through snow-covered streets and traditional wooden houses, admire ice and snow sculptures, and experience local winter activities like sledding, snowmobiling, or snowshoe walking.

    We’ll gather for a second welcome dinner, marking the start of the next phase of our adventure.

    Take a nighttime stroll across the frozen river, where a lively fair of food stalls and winter activities awaits on the ice.

    Overnight in Harbin.

    Day 8 – Qiqihar (Wetlands & Wildlife)

    This mornign we will have free time in Harbin to explore it’s alleys and buy any additional winter clothes needes

    At noon, we’ll board the Trans-Manchurian Railway early in the morning to Qiqihar, then proceed directly to our hotel for check-in.

    We’ll explore the Zhalong Nature Reserve, one of China’s most important wetland habitats. Here, we may still see migratory cranes, while the vast, snow-covered wetlands and reeds create an ethereal winter landscape.

    In the evening, savour a traditional Qiqihar BBQ, famous across China.

    Overnight in Qiqihar.

    Day 9 – Train to Mohe (Arctic China)

    In the morning, we will do a walking tour of the Manchu Soviet city of Qiqihar, taking in its historic architecture and local life.

    In the afternoon we will go shopping to prepare the longest over-landing section of our expedition, the artic train to Mohe(14h)

    In the evening, we will board the train to the northernmost settlement in China, known as “China’s Arctic Village.” Here, pine forests give way to endless snowfields, and temperatures drop below –30°C.

    Day 10 – Mohe Village

    Arrive in Mohe in the early morning.

    Check in to our cozy wooden guesthouse, where heated brick beds (kang) will keep you warm.

    Spend the day exploring the surrounding pine forests and snowfields, enjoying winter activities such as snowshoeing, sledding, or short hikes.

    In the evening, venture outside under the clear night sky in search of the aurora borealis, a rare and magical spectacle if conditions are favorable.

    Overnight in Mohe.

    Day 11 – Beiji Village (The Northernmost Point of China)

    We will travel in the morning to Beiji Village, the northernmost settlement in China, also called the “Arctic Village.”

    Check in to your accommodation and explore the village’s snow-covered streets, frozen rivers, and local Arctic culture.

    Visit a reindeer park or Ewenki‑community area where you can get in direct contact with wild reindeer, and learn about the indigenous Siberian‑Ewenki culture of the far north.

    In the evening, enjoy a warm traditional dinner, featuring local specialties such as northern wild fish, hearty stews, and preserved delicacies.

    As night falls, we will do a night tour tokeep watch for the Northern Lights, dancing across the Arctic sky.

    Overnight in Beiji Village.

    Day 12 – Return to Mohe

    After breakfast, we will enjoy optional activities such as ice fishing, snowmobiling, or visiting the local homes to learn about life in China’s far north.

    After noon we will start our journey back to Mohe Village.

    Spend the day at a relaxed pace, visiting local sites, wandering through the snowy landscapes, or revisiting favorite spots from your first stay.

    At dawn, we will enjoy a local arctic dinner in a local host family.

    Overnight in Mohe.

    Day 13 – Departure from Mohe to Beijing

    After breakfast, transfer to Mohe Gulian Airport for your flight back to Beijing, concluding your Arctic adventure.

    You’ll have the opportunity for a final stroll around the Chinese capital to relax and explore the city, depending on your return flight schedule.

    Reflect on the unique landscapes, frozen rivers, northern lights, bid farewell to the travel family you’ve shared these unforgettable days with.

    End of expedition.

    • Harbin & Snow Village – Explore China’s charming “Snow Village,” where wooden cottages, glowing lanterns, and frozen rivers create a true winter wonderland. Enjoy sledding, snowmobiling, and a festive night market on the ice.

    • Qiqihar Wetlands – Journey by Trans-Manchurian Railway to Qiqihar and wander through the ethereal Zhalong Nature Reserve, home to cranes and snow-covered reed fields. End the day with famous northeastern BBQ.

    • The Arctic Train – Ride north aboard one of China’s most remote overnight routes to Mohe, crossing endless white forests and frozen plains toward the Arctic Circle.

    • Mohe Village – Settle into a cozy wooden lodge and explore the snowfields and pine forests, where the Northern Lights sometimes shimmer above the treetops.

    • Beiji Village (China’s Arctic Point) – Reach the northernmost tip of China, meet reindeer herders of the Ewenkicommunity, and experience life in an authentic Arctic village.

    • Farewell in Mohe – Try local Arctic delicacies, go ice fishing or snowmobiling, and reflect on the journey before flying back to Beijing.
